Friday May 18, 2012Beisel and Mather Named to Academic All-District IV At-Large Team

Gainesville, Fla.

University of Florida senior Joanna Mather (Duluth, Ga.) of the womenís tennis team and sophomore swimmer Elizabeth Beisel (North Kingstown, R.I.) were voted the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District IV Womenís At-Large Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday. The annual announcement recognizes the nationís top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The pair was two of 10 women named to the All-District Team and will be placed onto the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Mather, who received her bachelorís degree in May in Business Administration-Management, is the lone senior on the second-ranked womenís tennis team, which is competing in the NCAA Championships Quarterfinals on Saturday. She has been the Gator captain each of the last two years, including last seasonís national championship squad. Mather enters the May 19 NCAA Quarterfinals having won a team-best 31 singles wins, also the most she has recorded in a season.

Mather also enters the NCAA quarterfinals with 211 combined singles (102) and doubles (109) wins. She is the 16th Gator to reach the 200-victory plateau and only the seventh to win 100 singles and 100 doubles matches in a career. She was named the 2012 SEC Tournament MVP and earned First Team All-SEC honors. Mather was UFís Female Nominee for the SECís Brad Davis Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship and the SECís Sportsmanship Award nominee.

Beisel, fresh off a stellar 2011-12 season which saw her capture both her first World and NCAA Championship, makes the list for the first time of her career as a Gator. The 2012 SEC Female Swimmer of the Year and Commissionerís Trophy (High Point Award Winner) owns a 3.61 GPA in Telecommunications, and was most recently made her debut on the 2012 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

The U.S. National Team member recently wrapped-up her sophomore year with the Gators and is currently training for the U.S. Olympic Trials in June, in hopes of making the 2012 U.S. Olympic Squad for the second time.
