Monday May 7, 2012No. 17 Florida Men's Golf to Participate in East Regional
The 17th-ranked University of Florida men’s golf team will head to Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. for the East Regional, the NCAA announced tonight. Regional play begins on Thursday, May 17, and goes through Saturday, May 19, at the par-72, 7,100 yard, East Course.
“We’re excited to be going to Greensboro for the Regional,” said Gator head coach Buddy Alexander. “We’ve been playing solid all spring and are ready to go out and compete.”
Joining the Gators in Greensboro will be three additional teams ranked in the top-25 of the latest GolfWeek/Sagarin rankings, SEC rival Auburn (3), UNLV (14) and Duke (18). Additionally four individuals are ranked in the top-30.
The Gators have advanced to regionals every year since the inception of regional play back in 1989. From there, the Orange and Blue have gone on to compete in the NCAA Championships in all but one season. Additionally, UF has captured five NCAA Regional trophies including last season’s East Regional title at Golden Ocala.
Six regionals are played during the weekend of May 17, with 14 teams at each location. The top five teams from each site will advance to the NCAA Championship, played this year at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
