Allie Will is the No. 1 seed in the singles and doubles draws

Three members of the University of Florida women’s tennis team and two Gator doubles pairs were selected to compete in the 2012 NCAA Division I Singles and Doubles Championships, the NCAA Subcommittee announced Wednesday.

The 64-player singles draw and the 32-team doubles draw will be played the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., on six consecutive days - May 23-28 - immediately following the NCAA Team Championship (May 17-22). The University of Georgia will serve as host.

Allie Will (Boca Raton, Fla.) is the No. 1 overall seed and received the Southeastern Conference’s singles automatic qualifier. She will be joined by Lauren Embree (Marco Island, Fla.), who is seeded 9-16 and senior Joanna Mather (Duluth, Ga.). Sophomore Sofie Oyen (Leopoldsburg, Belgium) is the first alternate for the singles draw

Oyen and Will earned the No. 1 overall seed and will be joined in the doubles draw by teammates Embree and Mather.

Will has compiled a 21-1 overall singles record this season and sports an eight-match winning streak entering the NCAA Team Championships, where the Gators play host to South Carolina State in the first round on May 11. Will reached the quarterfinals of last year’s NCAA Singles Championships and used that momentum with a strong showing during the 2011 fall when she won the Riviera/ITA All-American Singles Championship and finished runner-up with Oyen on the doubles court in the prestigious national event.

Embree is 25-5 in singles action and has won her last 14 singles matches. The Gator junior advanced to the semifinals of the 2011NCAA Singles Championships, where she retired due to injury. Mather also has won her last 14 singles outings and has won a team-leading 29 matches this year. The Gator’s lone senior reached the finals of the USTA-ITA National Indoor Singles Championships in November, after winning the Riviera/ITA All-American Consolation Doubles Championship with Embree.

On the doubles court, Embree and Mather own a 49-7 all-time record as a pair, including a 23-2 record this season and entering the NCAA Team Championships riding a 20-match winning streak.

Oyen and Will are 35-6 all-time as a doubles team, with a 19-2 mark this season. The tandem has been the top-ranked doubles team in the nation for the last six ranking periods.

The draw pairings will be announced on May 22.

All matches in the NCAA Individual Championships shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
