Gainesville, Fla.
The Florida
men’s 4x100-meter relay team, composed of Jeff
Demps (Winter Garden, Fla.), Tony
McQuay (Riviera Beach, Fla.), Leonardo
Seymore (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) and Dedric
Dukes (Miami, Fla.), and junior thrower Jeremy Postin (Auburndale, Fla.) each have earned Southeastern
Conference Athlete of the Week honors for their exceptional performances this
past weekend, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala., announced Tuesday.
The Gator quartet
clocked the second-fastest time in the nation this season by winning the
4x100-meter relay at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic this past weekend with a
time of 38.67.
The time goes
down as the third-fastest time in the world this season, behind only Auburn’s
nation-leading time of 38.30 and a world-leading time of 37.82 by the Racers
Track Club of Jamaica. It is the fastest collegiate time ever clocked at Percy
Beard Track and goes down as the fifth-fastest time in Florida school history.
It is the fastest time ever run in UF history before the month of June.
Postin claimed
yet another hammer victory this season, as the junior thrower broke his own UF
record with a throw of 68.07m/223-4 at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic this past
weekend.
Setting a new
personal best, Postin turned in the best throw in the SEC this season and now
ranks fourth in the NCAA. This is Postin’s fourth career SEC weekly honor and
his first of 2012.
The Gators now own eight weekly honors in 2012, as former Gator All-American thrower Kemal Mesic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) earned SEC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors twice during the indoor season, bookending a weekly honor for freshman jumper Taylor Burke (Medina, Ohio), who was named SEC Co-Women’s Freshman of the Week earlier in the indoor season. Demps and junior sprinter Lanie Whittaker (Miami, Fla.) were each honored for their performances at the 85th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and 68th Annual Pepsi Florida Relays, respectively.
