Gainesville, Fla.

After sweeping its last non-conference series of the season April 20-21 over FIU, the No. 3 Florida softball squad will swing back into league action Tuesday with a mid-week doubleheader versus No. 23 LSU as UF continues its month-long April home stand. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. from Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium, while game two will follow at approximately 7:30.

Gator and Tiger fans can catch Tuesday’s doubleheader on CSS, with Cheri Kempf and Bernie Guenther on the call. Locally, Gator fans should tune into Cox Channel 199 for programming, noting this is different than the usual channel 259 for CSS programming. Fans will need a digital cable box, but will not need to be subscribers to the Cox sports tier. The first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader will air live, while the second game will air on tape delay at 10:30 p.m. (ET). In addition, fans can catch both match-ups on ESPN3.com.

In addition to CSS’s programming, fans can tune in live locally and online to WYGC-104.9 FM, 105 The Game, with Adam Schick and Megan Bush or follow live stats online through Gametracker, with all links accessible on GatorZone.com/softball.

The Gators (41-5, 18-2 SEC) swept the FIU Panthers April 20 in a Friday evening doubleheader 7-4 and 9-0 (5) before returning for the series sweep with a 7-1 victory in the Saturday afternoon finale. Two freshman Gators, Briana Little (Middleburg, Fla.) and Jess Damico (Gray Summit, Mo.), tallied their first career homers on the weekend, while the Orange and Blue were led by another freshman, Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.), at the plate. Fagan completed the series with FIU 6-for-10 (.600), including two triples, six RBI and four runs scored. Fagan had two hits and two RBI in each of UF’s three games against the Panthers, while scoring two runs in two of the three contests. The UF third baseman was also 4-4 on the base paths, with a career-best two stolen bags in the second game of Friday’s doubleheader.

Florida’s 9-0, five-inning victory Friday over FIU in game two of the doubleheader counted as its 16th run-rule and 19th shutout of the year. The Gators are 7-4 against Top-25 competition and own a 2-0 record in extra innings in 2012.

Sophomore hurler Hannah Rogers (Lake Wales, Fla.) picked up two wins, while freshman Alyssa Bache (Clearwater, Fla.) earned her second save of the season in one game, as first year Lauren Haeger (Peoria, Ariz.) tallied the win in the second game of Friday’s twin bill. The trio registered 17 strikeouts through the span of the series.

Following their LSU doubleheader, Gators will look to finish a pair of three-game SEC series strong, as the Orange and Blue sit atop the SEC standings with a one game lead over Alabama. Florida will play host to SEC Eastern Division rival Kentucky April 27-29 before heading to Tuscaloosa for the regular-season finale against Alabama May 4-6. UF will then stay in Tuscaloosa for the 2012 SEC Tournament, which kicks off May 10.
