After a 9-1 mid-week non-conference victory over No. 21 FSU Wednesday night in Tallahassee, the No. 6 Gator softball team will swing back into league action this weekend when it plays host to Ole Miss in a three-game set at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium Friday through Sunday.

Gator fans can catch Friday and Sunday’s games live on GatorVision.tv or tune in live locally or online to 104.9, 105 The Game, with the call by Gator play-by-play Adam Schick and analysis from former UF All-American Megan Bush. First pitch Friday is slated for 6 p.m., while Saturday’s contest will kick off at 2:30 p.m., with Sunday set for 1 p.m.

The Gator softball team improved to 32-4 overall and 12-2 in Southeastern Conference play throughout the last week of play after securing the series win at No. 9 Georgia, defeating the Bulldogs, 4-2, Saturday and 6-3 Sunday after UGA took the opener, 3-2. UF capped off the week with its win over the Seminoles to improve to 7-4 on the season against Top-25 competition.

After opening SEC play with 11 of 14 games on the road, the Gators have returned home to the Sunshine State for the entire month of April, with just one more mid-week road game looming at UCF April 11. The Orange and Blue will play host to Ole Miss, Auburn, FIU, LSU and Kentucky in the next month before heading to Alabama for the last regular-season league series of the year May 4-6, followed by the SEC Tournament in Tuscaloosa.

In UF’s rout of FSU Wednesday, the Gators put up 11 hits for the second-consecutive game, including four doubles and two homers, scoring nine runs against FSU, the most the Seminoles have allowed all season. For Florida, the run-rule victory marked its first since downing South Carolina in five March 16.

Junior Kelsey Horton (Valrico, Fla.) went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI to lead the Gators, while sophomore Cheyenne Coyle (West Hills, Calif.) was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs to power UF’s offensive efforts. Florida poured it on in the third, racking up two doubles and two homers for a six-hit, six-run third frame that all but put the game away for the Gators. Freshman Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.) knocked her first career homer donning the Orange and Blue as part of UF’s third-inning splurge, finishing the day with three RBI.

Sophomore ace Hannah Rogers (Lake Wales, Fla.) started hot, fanning two of the first four batters she faced in the first frame, finishing the day with three strikeouts, while giving up just four FSU hits and walking two to improve to 18-2 in the circle this season for the Gators.

The Orange and Blue are 33-7 all-time against the Rebels and will look to add to their 17-2 record at home against Ole Miss. For more about this weekend’s series, read the UF GAME NOTES.
