Wednesday April 4, 2012Allie Will Named SEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
For the second time this season, University of Florida junior Allie Will (Boca Raton, Fla.) has been named the Southeastern Conference Womenís Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced.
Will posted a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles matches on the road, including the 7-0 team win at No. 13 Alabama that snapped the Tideís eight-match winning streak and helped Florida become the lone remaining undefeated team in SEC matches.
In the two singles wins playing the No. 1 position, Will lost a combined total of five games in the two matches, as she improved to 19-1 in singles overall, including a 14-1 dual match record this year. Will owns a career 102-11 singles record with a winning percentage of 90.3 percent, second only to Gator legend Lisa Raymondís 95.4 percent career win percentage.
On the doubles court, Will paired with Caroline Hitimana for the first time ever and the pair provided a doubles-point clinching 8-2 win at the No. 2 position playing Auburnís 36th-ranked tandem.
Will earned the No. 1 singles ranking in the Feb. 16 ITA national ratings and became the ninth different Gator since the 1988 season to earn the No. 1 singles ranking. When the March 27 ITA national rankings were released, Will and Sofie Oyen were the No. 1-ranked doubles team in the country, as Will became only the second Gator to be ranked No. 1 in both disciplines during the same season, joining Nicole Arendt, who accomplished the feat in 1991.
The second-ranked Gators (15-1, 8-0 SEC) play their first two regular-season home matches this weekend. Florida entertains Arkansas on Friday at 5 p.m., before welcoming LSU to Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Admission to all regular-season home matches is free.
