Tuesday April 3, 2012No. 6 Gators Clash With No. 21 Seminoles in Tallahassee Wednesday

Gainesville, Fla.

Just three days after its fifth-consecutive Southeastern Conference series win, the No. 6 Florida softball team will step outside of league play for a non-conference match-up with Sunshine State rival No. 21/22 FSU in Tallahassee April 4. First pitch from JoAnne Graf Field is slated for 6 p.m. Wednesday and the game will air live on Fox Sports Florida with Nick Belmonte and Tom Block on the call.

The Gator softball team improved to 31-4 overall and 12-2 in Southeastern Conference play throughout the last week of play after securing the series win at No. 9 Georgia, defeating the Bulldogs, 4-2, Saturday and 6-3 Sunday after UGA took the opener, 3-2. Prior to a road trip to Athens, the Gators fell short, 4-1, to No. 21 USF at home in the second meeting between the two teams this season. Florida improved to 6-4 on the season against Top-25 competition.

After opening SEC play with 11 of 14 games on the road, the Gators will return home to the Sunshine State for the entire month of April, with just two mid-week games at FSU and UCF April 4 and 11, respectively. The Orange and Blue will play host to Ole Miss, Auburn, FIU, LSU and Kentucky in the next month before heading to Alabama for the last regular-season league series of the year May 4-6, followed by the SEC Tournament in Tuscaloosa.

UF hurlers Hannah Rogers (Lake Wales, Fla.) and Lauren Haeger (Peoria, Ariz.) each picked up wins in the past week, Haeger in Saturday’s game and Rogers with a complete game Sunday. Florida used three homers in the fourth inning to defeat UGA Sunday, while Haeger’s five innings of work and six strikeouts were the difference Saturday as UF has now won all of its league series so far in 2012.

Florida is 15-13 all-time against FSU, with the series tied 7-7 in Tallahassee. See more about the match up in this week’s game notes. Following the mid-week tilt with the Seminoles, the Gators will return home to Gainesville for a weekend set with Ole Miss. UF is 33-7 overall against the Rebels and will look to add to its 17-2 record against Ole Miss at home in Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
