Senior sprinter Jeff Demps (Winter Garden, Fla.) has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Men’s Runner of the Week for his outstanding performances at the 85th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays this past weekend, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala. announced Tuesday.

Demps, who picks up his sixth career SEC weekly honor and fourth SEC Men’s Runner of the Week nod, ran his first race of the 2012 outdoor season, capturing the men’s 100 meters title with a time of 10.01 (+2.9). Demps claimed the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays title by clocking the fastest all-conditions time in the world this season, as he now currently leads the SEC and the nation in the men’s 100 meters.

Saturday’s race marked Demps’ third-fastest all-time, all-conditions time of his career. Demps also ran the opening leg of Florida’s men’s 4x100-meter relay, which currently ranks fifth in the nation and third in the SEC with a time of 39.26.

This is the fifth weekly honor for the Gator program in 2012, as former Gator All-American thrower Kemal Mesic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) earned SEC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors twice during the indoor season, bookending a weekly honor for freshman jumper Taylor Burke (Medina, Ohio), who was named SEC Co-Women’s Freshman of the Week earlier in the indoor season.

Florida now looks ahead to hosting the 2012 Pepsi Florida Relays. The event will take place Friday and Saturday, April 6-7.
