Wednesday March 21, 2012Freshman Hedberg Wins Second SEC Golfer of the Week Honor
Florida freshman Camilla Hedberg (Sitges, Spain) has been named the women’s SEC Golfer of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Wednesday. Hedberg is coming off her best finish in her collegiate career after tying her own school record for the lowest tournament total with a 208 (68-71-69, -2) and placing tied for second at the 2012 SunTrust Gator Women’s Invitational.
The Spaniard led UF to its second consecutive Gator Invitational title after posting the third-best tournament total in tournament history and sinking a par putt on the last hole of the tournament to seal the one-stroke victory over No. 2 Alabama.
"Camilla has been a very consistent player for us all spring,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “This past weekend, she hit the ball great, and only missed a few fairways. Anytime you can get under par on our golf course over three rounds of golf, proves you are striking the ball very well. She had a great weekend, and we are proud of her."
Hedberg, who had a season-high 39 pars and nine birdies against only five bogeys and one double-bogey throughout the tournament, had the best finish among all SEC golfers at Mark Bostick Golf Course. Hedberg’s showing last weekend was the second under par tournament in her brief career.
The UF women’s golf team will see its next action in Athens, Ga. for the Liz Murphey Classic, Friday March 26 through Sunday Apr. 1. The tournament is hosted by the University of Georgia and will be played at the UGA Golf Club. Live scoring throughout the tournament will be available at golfstat.com.
