Thursday March 8, 2012Gator Men's Golf Set to Face Elite Field at S.H. Collegiate Masters

Las Vegas, Nev.

Coming off their third victory of the season at the Charleston Shootout, the Gator men’s golf team will return to action on Friday, March 9, when they travel to Las Vegas to compete in the S.H. Collegiate Masters.

“Vegas is maybe the strongest field of the year,” said head coach Buddy Alexander. “It’ll be a tough course and a great test but in golf you just focus on trying to get better everyday and I think that our kids have done that and will be ready to play.”

Florida will send out a lineup of juniors T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) and Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.), freshmen J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) and Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) and senior Zach Lee (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) to the par-72, 7,510 yard, course.

The 2012 edition of the S.H. Collegiate Masters features one of the elite fields in college golf with 12 of the 15 teams ranked or receiving votes in the latest Golfworld/Nike Golf coaches’ poll. Additionally, the field features seven of the top-10 golfers in the country according to the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

UF will be making its 12th appearance at Southern Highlands finishing in the top-5 five times, including winning the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship in 1992.

The 54-hole tournament will run from Friday-Sunday, March 9-11, with play beginning at 8 a.m. PST each day with tee times going off No. 1 and No. 10 holes. Live scoring for the event will be available through golfstat.com.
