Junior thrower Jeremy
Postin (Auburndale, Fla.) broke his own school
record in the weight throw at the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier in Blacksburg,
Va. on Saturday, earning his first-ever appearance in the NCAA Indoor
Championships.
The 2012 SEC Champion in the men’s weight throw used a
career-best toss of 21.60m/70-10.50 to automatically qualify for the NCAA
Championships in Nampa, Idaho next week. His previous career best of
21.48m/70-5.75, the former UF record, was set just last weekend at the SEC
Indoor Championships.
“I’m incredibly proud of Jeremy,” Florida head coach Mike Holloway said. “Coach (Steve) Lemke
thought he was ready to throw far, and he was right as usual. He broke his own
school record and qualified for his first NCAAs…what
a huge performance for him.”
The Gators also saw personal bests at the Alabama High Tide
Indoor Qualifier, where Darshay Davis (Mirimar, Fla.) and Ugonna Ndu (Newark, N.J.) raced their way into the Florida
record books.
Davis
continued her stellar sophomore season, earning personal bests in both 60
(7.35, 5th all-time at UF) and 200 meters (23.71, 10th all-time at UF). Ndu improved her standing at second all-time in Gator
history, running a personal best 8.31 in the 60-meter hurdles.
“We didn’t
get all the performances we wanted out of the weekend, but I couldn’t be more
pleased with Darshay and Ugonna’s
performances this weekend,” Holloway said. “Great PRs
out of both of those ladies, who just set their previous PRs
last weekend.”
“We’re
looking forward to Monday evening when the official qualifier lists come out,”
Holloway continued. “We think we have a strong group for both the men and the
women traveling to the national meet and we’re looking forward to that.”
The Gators travel to Nampa, Idaho for
the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by Boise State University on March
9-10.
