The Florida women’s distance medley relay team, consisting of Agata Strausa (Riga, Latvia), Ebony Eutsey (Miami, Fla.), Shelby Hayes (Winter Park, Fla.) and Cory McGee (Pass Christian, Miss.), used a school-record time of 10:58.77 at the Columbia Last Chance Meet to automatically qualify for the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships in Nampa, Idaho.

“I’m very, very proud of the women’s DMR,” Florida head coach Mike Holloway said. “They broke the school record again and went up there with the goal of breaking 11 minutes and they did that.

The race marks just the 11th time in NCAA history that a women’s distance medley relay squad has broken the 11-minute barrier.

Florence Ngetich (Eldama Ravine, Kenya), the 2012 SEC Women’s 5000 Meter Champion, won the same title at the Armory, finishing in 16:12.88.

“Very proud of Florence,” Holloway said. “We were hoping for a faster race. It’s tough up there running by herself. She’s come a long way this season and we’re looking forward to what we’ll see next from her.”

Select athletes will continue at Last Chance meets in Birmingham, Ala. and Blacksburg, Va. tomorrow throughout the day. Live results for the Alabama High Tide Indoor Qualifier can be found here. Live results for the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier can be found on FlashResults.com.
