Sunday’s event is a double dual meet as the No. 10 Nebraska men’s team faces Arizona State at the same time. Florida last competed in a double-dual meet in 2001, also at Nebraska.

Members of the Florida coaching staff have strong ties to Nebraska. UF Head Coach Rhonda Faehn was an assistant coach at Nebraska for the four seasons prior to taking the UF head position in May of 2003. UF Assistant Coach Adrian Burde was an NU assistant coach for five seasons before joining the UF staff in the summer of 2006.

This is the sixth consecutive meet which Florida will face a team among the top-20 national rankings. On Jan. 27, the Gators defeated then No. 1 Arkansas, then No. 24 Maryland and Bridgeport. The Gators lost at defending NCAA champion and then No. 6 Alabama on Feb. 3 and defeated then No. 14 LSU on Feb. 10 in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. The Gators took the win at then No. 17 Auburn on Feb. 17 and against No. T-3 Georgia on Feb. 24.

Last Friday, Florida finished its regular-season Southeastern Conference slate with a 197.525-196.825 win over No. T-3 Georgia in front of a Stephen C. O’Connell Center crowd of 6,134. Florida’s final total stands as the nation’s ninth-highest of the season and gave Florida just its second dual meet win since 1990 in the O’Connell Center over the perennial power Gym Dogs.

Two Gators picked up each of the five event titles, using collegiate-best marks to take four of the wins. Freshman Kytra Hunter used a collegiate-best 39.675 to claim her fourth all-around title of the season. That total also equals the nation’s third-best all-around total of 2012. She also used a 9.95 to take the evening’s vault and floor exercise titles. The 9.95 was just off her floor best of 9.975 set on Feb. 10. Hunter has now won three vault titles and five floor events. Her performance versus Georgia earned her the SEC Gymnast of the Week honor, making her the third Gator to pick up the award in 2012. Junior All-American Marissa King equaled her collegiate-bests for uneven bars (9.925) and balance beam (9.95) to take both event titles. It was her second bar and fifth beam wins of the season.

Nebraska is coming off a 197.00-196.30 upset win at No. 7 Arkansas Friday evening for its second road win over a top-10 team this season. The Cornhuskers turned in their season-best total of 197.375 in its home opening win over Denver – a score which placed NU in the No. 1 position in the season’s first rankings.

Sunday’s meet will put the only two members of the current U.S. Senior National Team who are part of 2012 collegiate teams on the same competitive floor. Nebraska freshman Jessie DeZiel was a member of the U.S.’s gold medal team at the 2011 Pan American Games. Florida’s Mackenzie Caquatto is also a member of 2011-12 U.S. National Team.
