University of Florida women’s golf team travels to New Orleans for the 2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship slated for Sunday, February 26 through Tuesday, February 28. The tournament will be played at the English Turn Golf & Country Club, which is a par-72 and will play at 6,105 yards. There will be one 18-hole round each day at the Tulane University hosted tournament.
“It will be a good test, although there were some low scores shot there last year,” said head coach Jan Dowling “There were scores in the mid to high 60’s almost every day there so it is a scoreable golf course but at the same time you have to manage your golf ball out there and it’s another great field, as well, so we’re very excited about that.”
UF will enter the Allstate Sugar Bowl with a lineup led by reigning SEC Golfer of the Week, freshman Camilla Hedberg (Sitges, Spain), and junior Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines). Piccio and Hedberg are tied for the team lead in stroke average with 73.66. The Gators’ lineup is rounded out by senior Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.), senior Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) and junior Megan Pak (Bradenton, Fla.). Pak is making her first appearance in the lineup this year.
“I’m excited for her,” Dowling said about Pak being in the lineup. “She’s been working hard and she’s posted some solid numbers in our qualifying which has been very encouraging.”
According to the Golfstat.com national rankings, the field features three top-five squads with eight total teams appearing in the top-20, while 12 schools are currently sitting in the top-50. Tee times start at 8 a.m. ET on holes one and 10 on Sunday and Monday, while a shotgun start is scheduled for 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
