Friday February 24, 2012Gators Seek Quick Times at Last Chance Meet
Gainesville, Fla.
Gainesville, Fla.
The University of Florida swimming and diving team travels to
Athens, Ga., this weekend for the Last Chance Meet to earn qualifying times for
the NCAA meet in March. Four Gators as well as the women’s 800 free relay team
secured NCAA ‘A’ times last weekend at the SEC Championships where the men
finished second and women third.
With their trek to Georgia this weekend, UF swimmers look to
accrue more automatic qualifying times before heading to their respective NCAA meets
in March when they take to the pool this weekend.
No team scoring will be kept at the Last Chance met, but swimmers
can use the meet to earn automatic qualifying times for NCAAs, or improve their
standing in the field heading into nationals.
Several Gator swimmers own NCAA provisional qualifying standards
(B cuts) on the year. If they are unable to hit the automatic ‘A ‘mark this
weekend, they can still advance to the NCAA meet if there are voids in an event
that needs to be filled.
Florida will be joined by several other SEC squads including,
Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and South Carolina – to
name a few – along with other non-conference schools. NCAA Zone Diving will
take place at Auburn’s March 5-7, where the women’s NCAA Championships will
also be held just over a week later, March 15-17. The NCAA men’s championship
will take place in Federal Way, Wash., March 22-24.
Make sure to check GatorZone later this weekend to see how the Gators timed in at the Georgia Last Chance Meet.
