Saturday February 18, 2012Gator Soccer Opens Spring Season with Pair of Ties
The University of Florida soccer team opened its spring season Saturday with a pair of ties against south Florida opponents. Florida and Florida International played to a scoreless tie in the first match of the day. In the evening match played in front of James G. Pressly Stadium crowd of 2,700, Florida and Miami tied at 1-all.
The Gators only goal of the day started in the 12th minute when Miami’s Ashlee Burt was given a yellow card after pulling McKenzie Barney down in the box. The Gators were awarded a penalty kick and Jo Dragotta scored on the PK.
Miami scored in the 41st minute to tie the match.
“It was good to get out and play again after the long layoff,” UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh said. “Everyone who is able got to play today, so it was a good chance to get to see them in game action.”
The Gators return to action next Saturday when they travel to Tampa, Fla., to play USF and UCF.
