The No.12 University of Florida women’s golf team finished 12th at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The Gators recorded a team score of 312(+28) Wednesday which left them with an overall team score of 922 (302-308-312, +70). No.1 UCLA, who finished with a score of 870 (284-286-300,+18) was crowned tournament champions and snapped Southern California’s two-year winning streak at Palos Verdes GC.

“It was a disappointing tournament. The whole team needs to take a look at what needs to change,” head coach Jan Dowling said. “Sometimes playing a tough course and getting beat up is wake up call. We’ve got some time to figure it out and we need to use this as motivation.”

UF finished four strokes better than last year’s performance at the Northrop Grumman where they finished tied for 8th in a 13-team field. The Gators shot a 926 (305-304-317, +74) in last the 2011 competition.

Freshman Camilla Hedberg (Sitges, Spain) handed in UF’s best performance in the final round with a four-over 75. After going four-over in her first eight holes, Hedberg bounced back by shooting even par on her final 10 holes. Hedberg finished the tournament tied for 19th with a team-best score of 223 (76-72-75, +10).

Finishing with a final round 80 (+9), senior Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) placed tied for 31st with a tournament total of 227 (72-75-80, +14). Jensen finished tied with Hedberg for a team-best seven birdies throughout the tournament,

Junior Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) followed up a second round eight-over 79 with a final round six-over 77. Piccio finished the tournament tied for 35th with a 228 (72-79-77, +15).

Senior Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) shot a tournament total 246 (84-82-80, +33) and junior Isabelle Lendl (Goshen, Conn.) carded a three-day total of 255 (82-89-84, +42), to round out Florida’s lineup.

Lindy Duncan of Duke University entered the final day with the lead and did not surrender. Duncan finished with a tournament total of 210 (69-71-70, -3), four strokes better than second-place, Sophia Popov of Southern California.

The Gators will compete next at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, La. at the English Turn Golf and Country Club. The tournament is scheduled for February 26-28, and is hosted by Tulane University.
