Gainesville, Fla.

Kytra Hunter picked up her third SEC Freshman of the Week honor today.

For the third time this season, the University of Florida’s Kytra Hunter (Frederick, Md.) has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Georgia senior Kat Ding is the Gymnast of the Week.

In last Friday’s home meet against then-No. 14 LSU, Hunter used collegiate-best marks to collect at least a share of the evening’s balance beam and floor exercise titles. She posted a 9.925 on beam and a 9.975 on floor. She is the first Gator freshman to post a 9.975 in the floor exercise and the fifth in the program’s history to earn the near-perfect score on the event. Hunter also finished third on vault with a 9.90.

Hunter has received the Freshman Gymnast of the Week honor for three of the six possible weeks. She collected the award after the Jan. 27 quad meet against then-No. T-1 Arkansas, Bridgeport and then-No. 24 Maryland, where she shared her floor title (9.95) with junior All-American Ashanée Dickerson, and placed third in vault (9.85) and fifth in beam (9.85). She also earned the honor after collecting four event titles in Florida’s meet at Kentucky – vault (9.925), uneven bars (9.875), balance beam (9.85), and all-around (39.475). Hunter shared her uneven bars title at UK with junior Marissa King.

Hunter leads the 2012 Gators with 11 event titles, and she owns the team’s top event score on floor (9.975 vs LSU).

In the current GymInfo national rankings, Hunter holds the No. 22 position in all-around with her season average of 39.230. She also ranks No. 3 in floor (9.904) and No. 19 on vault (9.883).

Next up, No. 2 Florida (5-0, 3-1 SEC) will travel to Auburn, Ala., to face No. 17 Auburn (2-5, 0-3 SEC) on Friday at 8 pm ET in the Auburn Arena. The meet will air tape-delayed on CSS on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1 pm.
