The University of Florida track and field teams travel to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend to participate in the two-day Virginia Tech Elite Meet at Rector Field House. It will mark the fourth of five consecutive weekends that the Gators are competing.
The event begins at 5 p.m. ET Friday and continues at 11 a.m. ET Saturday. Live results will be available at http://www.flashresults.com/2012_Meets/indoor/02-03-VTElite/realtime/.
Junior sprinter Jeff Demps (Winter Park, Fla.), who is the two-time defending NCAA 60-meter Champion, will open his 2012 season on Friday at 6:20 p.m. ET, participating in the preliminaries of the men’s 60 meters. Demps is a four-time individual NCAA Champion and five-time All-American who is also currently on The Bowerman Watch List.
Junior sprinter Tony McQuay (Riviera Beach, Fla.), who is the USA Champion in the men’s 400 meters and an eight-time All-American, will compete in his first 200 and 400 meter races of 2012, as well as participate in the 4x400 meter relay.
Junior thrower Jeremy Postin (Auburndale, Fla.), who set a new Florida record in the weight throw at the Gator Invite with a personal-best mark of 21.31m/69-11, will look to automatically qualify for the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships as he is currently the NCAA’s third-ranked men’s weight thrower this season.
Junior hurdler Ugonna Ndu (Newark, N.J.) will look to continue her hot streak during her stay in Blacksburg. Ndu set a new personal best in the 60 meter hurdles at the Texas A&M Challenge while also capturing another title as part of the 4x400 meter relay team. Ndu will compete in both events while at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet.
