Tuesday January 24, 2012Former Gator Bank Vongvanij Earns Asian Tour Card

Cha Am, Thailand

Former Gator All-American Bank Vongvanij earned his Asian Tour card this past weekend by virtue of a tie for second at the Tourís Qualifying School. Vongvanij used a four-round total of 276 (69-64-74-69) to secure his card, finishing at 12-under, two strokes behind medalist David Lipsky.

ďIt was scary but it worked out. I finished at 12-under but left a few putts out there. Overall, I played well. It would have been nice to win but second place is not bad,Ē Vongvanij said shortly after the final round.† "Iím not feeling anything right now. Iím just going to enjoy the moment. Iíve played good all week and thatís a positive.Ē

Vongvanij, who graduated from UF this past spring, is coming off an impressive senior season where he recorded three medalist honors, and four top-five finishes. The 2011 SEC Player of the Year finished his final season with the third-best single-season stroke average (70.9) in Florida history and helped lead the Gators to five tournament wins, including the 2011 SEC Championship.

The Asian Tour season kicks off on February 2 with the Zaykabar Myanmar Open Presented by Air Bagan at Royal Mingalardon Golf and Country Club in Myanmar.
