The Florida volleyball team, coming off its first Elite Eight appearance since 2005, finished its 2011 campaign ranked No. 11 in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, marking the 21st consecutive season that the Gators are among the nation’s top-15 in the final poll.
Florida, who finished the 2011 season with a 27-6 record, has been ranked in the AVCA poll for 321 consecutive polls dating back to Sept. 17, 1991. That marks the nation’s fifth-longest streak of consecutive weeks ranked.
The Gators, who finished the 2011 campaign with the top hitting percentage in the NCAA at .309, lead the nation since 1991 with 659 total victories. Florida’s 21 consecutive 25-win seasons also comprise a nation-leading streak.
The 2011 NCAA Champion UCLA Bruins (30-6) garnered each of the 60 first-place votes to rank No. 1 in the AVCA’s final poll, while national runner-up Illinois (30-5) was No. 2. National semifinalist Southern Cal (29-5) and overall No. 1 seed Texas (25-5) finished third and fourth, respectively, while No. 5 Hawai’i (31-2) rounded out the AVCA’s final top-five.
