Monday December 19, 2011Walker and Boynton Named Bob Cousy Award Candidates
University of Florida senior guard Erving Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior guard Kenny Boynton (Pompano Beach, Fla.) have been named candidates for the 2012 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, the Basketball Hall of Fame announced yesterday.
Walker is having an impressive senior season, averaging 14.1 points, a team-leading 5.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds per contest. Boynton is also having a stellar season for the Orange and Blue as he averages a team-best 19 points per game to go along with 2.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds.
This original list of 60 candidates will be narrowed down to a final twenty by January 1st, final ten by February 1st, and final five by March 1st. The winner of the 2012 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at the Hall of Fame’s Class Announcement on Championship Monday in New Orleans as part of NCAA Final Four weekend. Walker, Boynton and the rest of the Gators return to action this evening when they host Mississippi Valley State at the O’Connell Center in a 7 p.m. contest.
