Gainesville, Fla.
Gainesville, Fla.
Florida senior
right-side hitter/setter Kelly Murphy (Wilmington, Ill.) was named 2011
AVCA First Team All-America on Wednesday, making her Florida’s first four-time
AVCA All-American. Fellow senior Kristy Jaeckel (Littleton,
Colo.) was named 2011 AVCA Second Team All-America, making this her first
All-America accolade after earning Honorable Mention honors a year ago.
Murphy, a 2011
Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award finalist, led Florida with 693 assists on the year.
She finished fifth in the SEC in service aces (38, .32/set) and hitting
percentage (.330). The Illinois native is second on the team in service aces,
kills (297, 2.54/set) and points (367.5, 3.14/set), and third in digs (271,
2.32/set). Murphy was named the AVCA National Player of the Week and SEC Offensive
Player of the Week for her triple-double in a 3-set sweep of Mississippi State.
Murphy, who started
every match and set of her career, finished her time as a Gator seventh
all-time in sets played (447), eighth in kills (1,306), eighth in assists (2,671),
10th in service aces (126) and 10th in points (1,567.5). Murphy was also named
to the All-Tournament Team at the Nike Big Four Volleyball Classic, the Active
Ankle SEC/ACC Challenge and the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational, as well
as a 2011 Preseason All-SEC selection. Over the span of her career, Murphy
registered 30 career triple-doubles and 76 career
double-doubles and is a three-time All-American.
Murphy becomes part
of a select group, as she is one of only two 2011 athletes named AVCA All-America
for all four years of her career (Kanani Danielson,
Hawaii).
Jaeckel, the 2011
SEC Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year, led the Gators in kills, points and service
aces on the season. The Colorado native racked up 405 kills on the season (3.49/set
– seventh in SEC) to go along with 500.5 points (4.31/set – fourth
in SEC) and 49 aces (.42/set – 1st in SEC, 27th in NCAA). She is also third
on the team in digs (268, 2.31/set) and blocks (72, .62/set), including a
team-high 21 block solos. Jaeckel, a 2011 Capital One
First Team Academic All-District® selection and a three-time member of the SEC
Academic Honor Roll, has a perfect 4.0 as a graduate student in Sport
Management.
Jaeckel’s name is all
over the Florida record books, as she finished her career fifth all-time in
attacks (3,405), seventh in kills (1,331), ninth in points (1,588.0) and 10th
in block solos (58). She was named the AVCA National Player of the Week and SEC
Offensive Player of the Week for her stellar performances on the road against Auburn
and Georgia. Jaeckel was also named to the
All-Tournament Team at the Nike Big Four Volleyball Classic, the Active Ankle
SEC/ACC Challenge and the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational, where she was
named the Tournament MVP. Jaeckel was also a 2011 Preseason
All-SEC selection and is just the ninth player in Gator history to reach 3,000
or more attacks.
