Sunday December 4, 2011Mike Lewark Claims One-Meter Title at Georgia Invitational

Athens, Ga.

The University of Florida menís and womenís diving team competed at the 2011 Georgia Invitational this past weekend at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga. The three-day competition saw eight top-five Gator finishes and one individual event victory.

 

The women scored 88 points, while the men tallied 135 points on the weekend.

 

Sophomore Mike Lewark (Davie, Fla.) claimed the menís one-meter competition, and lone UF victory, when he posted a 316.95, after being seeded fourth following the morning prelims. Lewark also registered the highest score for UF on the platform when he scored 301.90 for fourth. Additionally, the Gator sophomore finished sixth on the three-meter boards with a 289.40 mark.

 

Chris Jones (Palm City, Fla.) followed Lewark with a second- (339.20) and fifth-place (294.35) performance on the three-meter and one-meter boards, respectively. He was the only other male diver to take to the tower with an eighth place effort of 278.20.

 

Both David Springfels (Bradenton, Fla.) and Sean Saley (Pompano Beach, Fla.) also competed for Florida on the one- and three-meter boards at the Georgia Invitational.

 

Springfels posted scores of 265.85 on the one-meter springboard and 300.80 on the three-meter boards for 10th and fourth, respectively.  Saley, a junior diver for the Gators, earned seventh (281.75) and eighth (284.55) on the three- and one-meter boards, respectively.

 

The Gators lone female divers, Kaylee Doback (Brandon, Fla.) and Danielle Risley (Jacksonville, Fla.), shone at the Georgia Invitational with top finishes in their events.

 

Doback collected one third, and two fourth-place finishes on the weekend. She was the highest UF finisher on both the platform and three-meter boards, scoring 229.85 for third and 287.30 for fourth, respectively. Additionally, the lone senior female diver at UF, scored 275.45 for fourth on the one-meter springboard.

 

Risleyís highest finish was in the one-meter competition when she scored 275.45 points for second. The Jacksonville native also finished sixth in the three-meter competition (283.50) and seventh on the platform (205.00).

Both diving squads will rest from competition until the start of the New Year.
