The Gator men’s cross country squad and three UF women’s runners are set to compete at the 2011 NCAA Championships Monday in Terre Haute, Ind. Florida’s men picked up a NCAA automatic qualifying bid after their second-place finish at the 2011 South Region Championship last weekend and will race at NCAAs as a team for the first time since 2006 after having at least one individual compete three of the last four seasons. On the women’s side, senior Genevieve LaCaze (Daisy Hill, Australia), junior Florence N’Getich (Eldama Ravine, Kenya) and sophomore Cory McGee (Pass Christian, Miss.) each earned individual at-large bids, as LaCaze will compete in the NCAA finale for the fourth-straight year and McGee for the second-straight season. A junior college transfer, N’Getich will represent the Gators in her first NCAA meet.


Indiana State will host this year’s meet for the eighth-consecutive season at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. The men’s race will begin at approximately 12:08 p.m. ET, followed by the women’s race at approximately 12:58 p.m. A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from noon to 1:30 p.m. ET, Monday, Nov. 21, on  In addition, highlights from the championships will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show, scheduled to air on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. ET on CBS HD. Men’s NCAA Preview Notables

For the first time since 2006, UF’s men’s cross country team will compete at the NCAA Championships as a team after recording a second-place (68 points), NCAA automatic-qualifying finish at the 2011 South Regional Championship Saturday at the Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course in Tuscaloosa, Ala. … A total of nine Florida men’s and women’s runners picked up All-South Region honors after finishing among the top-25 athletes in each of the South Regional race fields, with four men standing out, not only in the top-25, but in the top-13 of the 159-athlete men’s field … A Gator men’s team last finished second at the NCAA South Region Championship in 2004, when that squad went on to finish 27th at the NCAA Championship … In UF’s last NCAA Championship appearance as a team in 2006, Florida earned a 22nd-place overall finish … This year’s NCAA automatic appearance will mark the men’s ninth NCAA showing as a team all time after having individual representation three of the last four years … The Gator men’s team’s highest NCAA finish was sixth place, achieved in 1990; Florida additionally placed eighth in 1986 … The highest finish for an individual UF men’s runner is 13th, achieved by Tom Nohilly in 1988 and Dan Middleman in 1990 … No Florida men’s runner on the current roster – consisting of just one senior – has competed at the NCAA Championships.


Women’s NCAA Preview Notables

Florida's women placed third at the NCAA South Regional after a hard-fought battle and leading the pack for a majority of the race, falling just shy of a team automatic NCAA qualifying bid, but three Gators were handed individual At-Large bids to compete at the 2011 NCAA Championships Sunday evening: senior Genevieve LaCaze, junior Florence N'Getich and sophomore Cory McGee … Florida made it seven-consecutive years with a top-five Regional finish and six-straight with a top-three overall finish at the South Regional … A total of nine Florida men’s and women’s runners picked up All-South Region honors after finishing among the top-25 athletes in each of the South Regional race fields, as five women’s runners donning the Orange and Blue recorded top-25 finishes in the race consisting of 191 female student-athletes … It was LaCaze who recorded Florida’s top finish in fourth place (20:41.2), with McGee in sixth (20:42.2) and N’Getich in ninth (20:46.9). LaCaze, McGee, N’Getich, sophomore Stephanie Strasser and junior Mandy Perkins all picked up USTFCCCA All-South Region honors … LaCaze recorded Florida’s top South Region finish with her fourth-place final standing since 2009 when Rebecca Lowe won the individual title … LaCaze and McGee both competed at last year’s NCAA Championship, with McGee crossing as UF’s third scorer in 129th and LaCaze crossing fourth for the Gators in 147th … The 2011 NCAA Championship race will mark LaCaze’s fourth-straight postseason finale, as she finished 75th her freshman year in 2008 and 96th her sophomore season in 2009 when the Gators finished seventh as a team for UF’s first-ever top-10 finish … The highest an individual Gator women’s runner has ever placed at the NCAA Championships is second when former All-American Shelly Steely accomplished the feat in 1984, topping her ninth-place showing in 1981 … The Orange and Blue will have representation at the NCAA Championships for the sixth-consecutive season after the Gators qualified as a team 2006-10.
