Monday October 24, 2011McCumber Paces No. 10 UF Men's Golf on Day Two of Isleworth Collegiate Invitational

Windermere, Fla.

The No. 10 Florida men’s golf team shot a second round team score of 305 (+17) to sit in ninth place at the conclusion of day two at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational. For the day, the Gators were led by junior Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) who shot a team-best round of 73 (+1).

“It was a tough day for us out there today,” said head coach Buddy Alexander. “We didn’t play particularly well and we had too many big numbers and to be competitive you just can’t have those, but, we’ll get better. Hopefully we can put a good round together tomorrow and finish in the upper half of this good field.”

McCumber got off to a rocky start after a bogey on three and a double on five, but the junior kept his composure and ran off four consecutive pars to make the turn in 39 (+3). After another three pars to start his back nine, McCumber went on a run making birdies on three of the next four holes to get his round back to level par. After a bogey on 17 and a par on 18, McCumber had carded an inward 34 (-2) to wrap up his day in one-over, 73.

T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) turned in the second-best round on the day for the Gators with a three-over, 75. The junior, who currently ranks tied for 23rd in the field after two rounds to lead the Gators, used a birdie against four bogeys to tally his 75.

Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.) turned in his second-straight 77 (+5) to card the third score for UF.

Freshmen J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) and Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) each posted scores of 80 (+8) for their second rounds to close the scoring for UF.

The Gators will return to the course tomorrow morning when they open their final round play at 8:00 a.m.  Live scoring for the final round will be available through www.golfstat.com.
