Friday October 21, 2011Gator Women's Golf Tied for 9th After First Round of SEC/PAC-12 Challenge

The No. 9 ranked Florida women’s golf team completed the first round of the SEC/PAC-12 Challenge on Friday with a team score of 298 (+10), good enough for a tie for ninth. Freshman Camilla Hedberg (Sitges, Spain) led the charge during day one of the tournament. Hedberg carded a one-under 71 which landed her in a tie for ninth, individually.

Hedberg, who began on hole 10, shot two-under on the back nine of the Holston Hills Country Club. The freshman had three birdies against two bogeys.

Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) collected herself after an early double bogey to shoot a one-over 73. Piccio recorded three birdies against two bogeys and a double bogey. Piccio is tied for 23rd following the first round.

Isabelle Lendl (Goshen, Conn.) and Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) both finished at five-over and both recorded five bogeys, no pars and no birdies. Lendl and Watts are tied for 69th individually. Senior Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) had an up and down round and finished with first round total of 80 (+8).

Megan Pak (Bradenton, Fla.), who competed as an individual, completed her first round with an 11-over 83.

UCLA, the No. 1 ranked team according to the Golf World/NGCA Coaches’ Poll, escapes the first round with a three shot lead over Alabama. Individually, Stephanie Meadow from Alabama and Lauren Stratton from Vanderbilt sit atop the leader board with a score of 68 (-4). The Pac-12 leads the SEC after the initial round with an average team score of 299.1 to 301.5.

The second round will get under way tomorrow, October 22, at 9:30 a.m. ET.
