Monday October 10, 2011Coach Morgan Previews Wisconsin adidas Invite With Media Monday
University of Florida assistant track and cross country coach Todd Morgan, addressed the media Monday morning as part of the Gators' All-Sports Media Day. The Gators swing back into action Oct. 14 at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational after enduring a three-week training period before approaching the championship portion of the season.
Florida’s 2011 cross country teams maintained their USTFCCCA Top-30 rankings last week as UF’s women checked in at No. 22, while the men were No. 28 in this past week’s national poll. One of the most highly revered meets in college fall action, the Wisconsin’s adidas Invite will offer a Top-25 saturated field for the highest possible level of competition. At last year’s adidas Invite, both Gator teams finished a promising seventh place in the field, led on the women’s side by then-senior Charlotte Browning’s individual victory.
Morgan expressed his pleasure with the past three weeks of training, noting the training period went as well as possible and expected for the Orange and Blue. Morgan addressed the competition the Gators will face heading north to Madison, as 26 of the top 30 USTFCCCA teams will be represented at the adidas Invite, giving the meet a NCAA Championship feel despite being a regular-season contest. Morgan also noted that the adidas Invite will allow the Gators gain experience early on how to handle the pressure of a huge running field, similar to NCAAs, with hundreds of athletes competing through each part of the race.
This year’s third annual Wisconsin Adidas Invitational will feature 40 collegiate men’s teams and 42 college women’s squads – the women will kick off the day’s events at 1 p.m. with a 6K, while the men’s 8K starts at 1:40 p.m., both at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison on Friday.
