University of Florida assistant track and field and cross country coach Todd Morgan addressed the media Monday morning as part of the Gators’ All-Sports Media Day. Morgan shared his evaluation of UF’s 2011 cross country squads over the first two weeks of the season before previewing UF’s lone home event of the season, the Mountain Dew Invitational. The Gators will hit the Mark Bostick Golf Course for the 23rd Annual Mountain Dew Invitational Sept. 24. The men’s 8K will go off at 8 a.m., while the women’s 5K race will start at 8:30 a.m.

Morgan additionally discussed the impact of a number of Florida freshmen and newcomers after four Gator freshmen picked up SEC Athlete of the Week accolades in the first two weeks of competition.

“We’re looking forward to our home event this weekend. We have some good teams coming down to run – North Carolina and Michigan – along with the quality teams here in the state. The guys go first at 8 a.m., followed by the women at 8:30 a.m., so for any fans wanting to come out and watch I’d get there around 7:45 at the latest. Parking is right across the street from the golf course in several locations – our course is great; you don’t have to do a lot of walking to see a great amount of running. You can see the runners go by in a number of different spots and see the race develop and unfold. The one thing about cross country is the whole thing, for the college portion, is just about an hour. You’ll see a lot of action in one period (8-9 a.m.). There will be several high school races after, so we’ll have a lot of people out there. There’ll be a lot of cross country excitement.”
