The No. 7 Gator men’s golf team wrapped up play at day two of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational by posting a team score of 299 (+19) for a two round total of 589 (+29). UF currently sits in a tie for 10th place.
“Today was a little disappointing,” said head coach Buddy Alexander. “The course played harder today and we had a chance to make up some ground but we just weren’t able to do it, but we’ll keep battling and hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.”
UF was once again led by junior T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) who fired a round of two-over 72 in the tough playing conditions. Vogel, who recorded a birdie against three bogeys on the day, sits four strokes behind Cameron Wilson of Stanford heading into the final round.
Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) posted a three-over 73 for the second consecutive day to move into a tie for 19th place. The junior used a birdie on the par-5 15th, his sixth hole of the day, to go against four bogeys on the round.
Rounding out the day for UF were J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.), who shot a 76, Michael Furci (Sayville, N.Y.) who shot a 78 and Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.) who carded a 79.
The Gators will return to the course tomorrow morning when they tee off at 8:00 a.m. CST. Live scoring for the final round will be available through www.golfstat.com.
