Monday August 15, 2011Todd Morgan Previews 2011 Cross Country Season With SEC Digital Network
Florida’s two-time SEC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year Todd Morgan sat down with the Southeastern Conference this week as the league previews the upcoming 2011 cross country season with its member institutions. Gator fans can read what Morgan had to say by visiting the SEC Digital Network for Coach Morgan's Five Questions with the conference.
Last season, the Gators were the only SEC women’s squad represented at the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., after bringing home the school’s second consecutive SEC title – the fifth all-time. Florida sent one men’s runner to NCAAs, while the women’s team earned an automatic team bid following its second-place finish at the NCAA South Regional in Birmingham, Ala.
The Florida women advanced to the NCAA Championship for the fifth-consecutive season, the 11th all-time, while the men had representation at NCAAs for the first time since 2008.
Morgan, an assistant track and field coach for the Orange and Blue, was tabbed the 2010 SEC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year after also picking up the same accolade in 2009, his first two career league honors, both at the helm of UF’s cross country program.
Florida looks forward to the 2011 season, which is just three weeks away. For the first time in the last six years, the Gators will kick off the season on the road with two invitationals, the Western Carolina Invite (Cullowhee, N.C.; Sept. 2) and the USF Invitational (Tampa, Fla.; Sept. 9), before next competing at its home meet, the 2011 Mountain Dew Invitational Sept. 24 at UF’s Mark Bostick Golf Course.
