OMAHA, Neb. -- The Gators have added an extra player for the College World Series.
Actually, make that two players.
Two-way standout Brian Johnson, the Gators' regular No. 2 starter and designated hitter, was cleared Thursday by Florida's medical staff to return to the field.
Johnson has not played since May 28 in the SEC Tournament when he suffered a concussion after getting hit in the back of the head on an errant thrown by catcher Mike Zunino.
Johnson missed the Gators' wins in the regional and super regional to advance to Omaha for the College World Series for the second consecutive season.
Johnson is 8-3 with a 3.66 ERA and is hitting .312 with five home runs and 27 RBIs, including a grand slam in the SEC Tournament opener vs. Mississippi State.
Meanwhile, first baseman/pitcher Austin Maddox remains listed as day-to-day as he recovers from a foot injury suffered June 3 vs. Manhattan. His status for the CWS remains uncertain.
