Jesse Palmer ties a UF record with 4 rushing TD's
Palmer became the first Gator to score four rushing touchdowns in a game since Fred Taylor did it in 1997. He also hit Kirk Wells for a 32-yard touchdown pass.
Palmer's second touchdown was a beautiful 14-yard bootleg early in the second quarter. Palmer said it was a designed play the Gators have had in their playbook. "I think we've been waiting for the opportunity to use it", said Palmer. "I got a great fake from the tailback and had some great downfield blocking".
"I don't know if I've ever had a quarterback rush for four touchdowns", said Gator coach Steve Spurrier in his postgame radio interview.
Spurrier was also pleased with the play of Earnest Graham, who rushed for 128 yards on 14 carries and scored a 57-yard touchdown early in the third quarter.
"That was a good run," said Spurrier. "We sort of caught them in the right defense and Aaron Walker made a super block. That was one of the longest runs we've had here in a long time."
Kentucky trailed 24-17, but turnovers on back-to-back possessions led to Florida touchdowns and put the Wildcats behind 38-to-17 at the half.
Lito Sheppard and Benny Alexander had interceptions.
Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen completed 35-of-60 passes for 361 yards and two touchdowns.
The Gators have now beaten the Wildcats 14 straight times and improved to 4-0, 2-0 in the SEC.
Florida will visit Mississippi State in Starkville next Saturday with the kickoff set for 3:30 eastern time.
