University of Florida freshman Allie Will (Boca Raton, Fla.) won her opening round match of the NCAA Singles Championships in impressive fashion played Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Will, the No. 7 overall seed in the 64-player singles draw, cruised past Washington State’s Liudmila Vasilieva, 6-1, 6-1, and advanced to Thursday’s second round, where she plays UCLA’s Andrea Remynse.

The win improved Will’s overall singles record to 47-4, as her win total ties for the fourth most in Florida program history.

Gator rookie Lauren Embree (Marco Island, Fla.) had her 17-match singles win streak halted with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 loss to California’s Mari Andersson in the first round. She concludes the singles portion of her phenomenal freshman season with a 32-6 overall record.

Embree and Will return to action on Thursday, competing in the NCAA Doubles Championships.

The Gator team of Marrit Boonstra (The Netherlands) and Will, seeded 5-8, meet Michigan’s Whitney Taney and Rika Tatsuno, while Embree and Anastasia Revzina (Moscow, Russia) play California’s Anderrsson and Jana Juricova.

Boonstra holds a 73-21 career doubles record, including a 22-3 mark playing with Will, while Revzina is 99-23, with a 17-3 record teaming with Embree this season.
