Monday May 24, 2010No. 4 Softball Takes On No. 13 Arizona State in Super Regional

Gainesville, Fla.

The fourth-seed University of Florida softball team will take on 13th-seed Arizona State on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30 at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in the 2010 NCAA Super Regionals.  Saturday’s game will be broadcast on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. (ET).  Sunday’s game times are to be determined.

The Gators defeated in-state opponents FIU, UCF and Bethune-Cookman in the Gainesville Regional to advance to the Super Regionals.  The Sun Devils took down Boston University and Long Island twice in Amherst, Mass., to move on in the national tournament.

The last time the two teams faced off, the Gators defeated the 2008 National Champions, 8-2, at the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., on Feb. 19, 2009. Current junior Megan Bush (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) belted two home runs in the same inning, one for a grand slam, and former UF pitcher Stacey Nelson collected her 100th career win in the victory.

Florida is hosting Super Regionals for the third time in program history and advancing for the fourth time.  The Gators are 29-21 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, 24-9, under fifth-year head coach Tim Walton.   UF has made trips to the Women’s College World Series the past two seasons, including to the championship series last year.

Four Southeastern Conference teams moved on to Super Regionals as No. 1 Alabama will host No. 16 Hawaii, No. 15 Tennessee travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., to face the No. 2 Wolverines and No. 6 Georgia will host No. 11 California.

The Super Regional round, which is a best-of-three series, will also be broadcast on WYGC-FM 105 The Game (104.9) and live statistics will be available through www.GatorZone.com.
