Freshman Isabelle Lendl and Head Coach Jan Dowling

With an 11th place finish at the 2010 NCAA East Regional, the University of Florida’s 2009-10 season came to an end. After getting off to a strong start on day one, the Gators team scores continued to rise and they finished the team with their highest of the weekend, a 21-over 309. The squad finished with a 54-hole score of 890 (284-297-309, +26).

“Obviously it’s a pretty tough day to swallow for the entire team,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “Hopefully this feeling will motivate the team to work hard throughout the summer and improve. I know that they are a much better team than what they’ve shown. I believe in them and I just think they need to believe in themselves. I know that they will work hard this summer and improve on the areas that need improvement.”

Freshman Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) continued to lead UF and posted the best finish of the team, tying for 26th. Piccio carded a two-over 74 on Saturday for a total tournament score of 219 (69-76-74, +3). She made a double-bogey on her fourth hole, followed by a birdie on five and bogey on eight to enter the turn at two-over. She began her back nine with a bogey on 10 and after making a birdie on 13, went on to card five-straight pars.

Isabelle Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) concluded her freshman season with a total score of 223 (+7) to finish in a tie for 47th place. Lendl matched her second round score of 77 (+5) on day three to add to her first-round score of 69 (-3).

Sophomore Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) carded her highest score of the weekend on Saturday with a six-over 78 to finish her first NCAA Regional appearance in a tie for 54th place. She finished with a final score of 224 (73-73-78, +8).
