Saturday April 10, 2010W. Golf In Third, Piccio In Second After 36 at Gator Women's Golf Invitational

Gainesville, Fla.

The University of Florida women’s golf team is currently in third place after 36 holes of play at their home tournament, the SunTrust Gator Women’s Golf Invitational. The squad carded a team score of 587 (295-292, +27). UF was led by freshman Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines), who is tied for second.

“We played better in the second 18 holes, although the score doesn’t reflect it,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “The team had some really good comebacks. There’s a lot of golf yet to play and the team is excited to be on their home course and still be in contention, that’s all you can really ask for. We are going to come out, do what we do and give it our best tomorrow.”

Piccio led the Gators through both rounds of play. She carded an even-par 70 in her first round after making a bogey on five and a birdie on 14. She followed with a two-over 72 in the afternoon to finish the day with a 36-hole score of 142 (+2).

“I was really happy for Mia today,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “She has played this golf course really well all year and I’m looking forward to watching her play tomorrow.”

Freshman Isabelle Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Evan Jensen (Bellaire, Fla.) are tied for 19th place, both carding a two-round score of 148 (+8). The duo carded identical first and second round scores of 76 and 72, respectively. Isabelle made six bogeys in her first round and three bogeys and a birdie in her second. Jensen also made a comeback of her own after making seven bogeys and one birdie in her first, to rally to make two birdies and four bogeys in her second.

Junior Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) finished in a tie for 27th with a total score of 150 (73-77, +10). Sophomore Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) improved her first round score of 79 (+9) by three strokes to card a 76 (+6) in the afternoon. Lendl is tied for 49th with a 155 (+15).

Four Gators competed as individuals on Saturday, led by sophomore Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.). Watts is tied for 17th with a 147 (71-76, +7). Freshman Megan Pak (Bradenton, Fla.) is second among individuals with a 154 (74-80, +14) to tie for 40th. Seniors Nicole Schachner (Libertyville, Ill.) and Lauren Uzelatz (Lakeland, Fla.) are tied for 53rd and 74th with a 156 (78-78, +16) and 164 (79-85, +24), respectively.
