University of Florida freshman Brittany Dashiell (Bel Air, Md.) was named the American Lacrosse Conference Co-Rookie of the Week following her performance against La Salle and No. 4 North Carolina, announced Thursday by the league office.
A native of Bel Air, Md., Dashiell totaled six goals, seven draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover in the two games.
In their first road trip of the season, Florida beat La Salle 15-5 in Philadelphia. Dashiell led the offense with four goals on the day. She also had three draw controls and a caused turnover, and converted her only free position attempt of the game.
Against No. 4 North Carolina last Sunday, Dashiell scored two of the team’s five goals in the 18-5 loss. She also had four draw controls and a ground ball against the Tar Heels.
Through the first three games, Dashiell was the team’s leading goal-scorer with eight goals. After Thursday night’s win against St. Bonaventure, she ranks second on the team with nine goals. Freshman Ashley Bruns (Ellicott City, Md.) has 12 goals, following a five-goal performance against the Bonnies. Dashiell is tied for the team lead with 11 draw controls after four games.
Up next for Florida is a matchup with No. 5 Georgetown on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Lacrosse Stadium. Admission is free.
