Tuesday March 2, 2010Women's Golf Finishes Tied for Seventh at Kinderlou Forest Challenge

Valdosta, Ga.

The UF women’s golf team finished the Kinderlou Forest Challenge in a tie for seventh on Tuesday after carding a final score of 913 (+37). After the Gators got off to a strong start following round one, play was suspended yesterday evening as the sun began to set. Florida finished its second round on Tuesday morning and matched their second round score on Tuesday afternoon, with a 309 (+17).

“Because we were in a shotgun all three days, we finished on some tough holes,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “Unfortunately we didn’t play them as well as we could and that really killed our momentum heading into the second and third rounds which was unfortunate. We did have some positive things happen for us this week and we will take those with us. We just need to focus on the things we can control. It’s a long season and the experiences we will take from this tournament will help us down the road.”

Freshman Isabelle Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) finished her second round with an 80 (+7) and responded with the low UF round in the afternoon. Lendl carded a one-over 74 in her final 18 holes. She made a birdie on her first hole and carded 10-straight pars before making two bogeys on holes 15 and 16. She finished the tournament in a tie for 20th place with a total score of 227 (73-80-74, +8).

Joining Lendl in a tie for 20th was fellow freshman Mia Piccio (Bradenton, Fla.). Piccio finished her second round with a 77 (+4) and matched that in her third round. She was three-over par after her first nine holes, but rallied back to card birdies on her 10th and 11th. Bogeys on her 12th, 16th and 18th put her at four-over for the day. She finished the Kinderlou Forest Challenge with a 54-hole score of 227 (73-77-77, +8).

Sophomore Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) ended up with the low UF score in round two, carding a three-over 76. She shot a five-over 78 in her third round for a tournament score of 228 (74-76-78, +9), good for a tie for 26th. Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) finished in a tie for 49th with a total score of 234 (75-79-80, +15). Junior Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) rounded out Florida’s lineup with an 83 on Tuesday’s final round and a 54-hole score of 236 (76-77-83, +17) to tie for 55th.

The Gators travel to Athens, Ga. on March 26-28 for the Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic, hosted by the University of Georgia. It is the final event before the squad returns home to host the SunTrust Gator Women’s Golf Invitational on April 10-11 at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
