Monday March 1, 2010Women's Golf in Fifth At Kinderlou Forest Challenge

Valdosta, Ga.

The UF women’s golf team is currently in fifth place at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge, being held at the par 73, 6,265-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club. Play was suspended due to darkness with the second round not fully completed. The Gators owned sole custody of second place following the first round after carding a three-over 295.

Each team has between two and six holes remaining and will resume play tomorrow morning before the third and final round.

“This morning we got off to a great start and I thought we played solid,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “Going into the afternoon I felt that we didn’t really take advantage of anything inside 100 yards, which hasn’t been like us recently. But we have two things going for us tomorrow, the first being that the weather is supposed to be poor so we want to take advantage of that and the second is that we have 20-21 holes to put up some solid scores and finish this tournament out positively.”

A pair of freshmen, Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) and Isabelle Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) led the Gators after the first round, both carding an even-par 73 and tying for fourth place. Piccio carded birdies on holes eight and 18 and bogeys on holes one and nine. Lendl got off to a strong start, reaching three-under par after her first 12 holes, but consecutive bogeys on her 13th and 14th holes and one on her 17th put her at even-par. Piccio is currently even-par and Lendl is four over in their second rounds, but scores are not official.

Sophomore Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) shot a one-over 73 on her first 18 holes, finishing the round in a tie for 13th. She’s currently three-over in round two. Fellow sophomore Evan Jensen (Bellaire, Fla.) was tied for 20th after round one with a 75 (+2) with a two-over 75. After starting the round with two-straight bogeys, Jensen rallied to card birdies on her fourth and fifth holes, but a bogey on her sixth. Back-to-back bogeys on her 11th and 12th holes and consecutive birdies on her 14th and 15th put her at even-par through 17 holes, where she made a bogey. She is currently three-over par in round two.

Junior Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) was tied for 31st after round one with a three-over 76. She made five bogeys and two birdies in her first 18. She is three-over through 12 holes in round two.
