Friday December 11, 2009Cutura Leads Cal Into NCAA Round of Eight
California senior outside hitter Hana Cutura recorded a match-high 18 kills and 19.5 points to lead the Golden Bears to a 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-17) win over the Baylor Bears in the third round of the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
California (21-10), which booked its spot in the third round after a four-set win against Ohio State, hit .330 on the night and out-blocked Baylor (24-10) 9.0 to 2.0.
Cal senior Mindi Wiley charted nine kills on a .412 hitting percentage, while junior Carli Lloyd had a match-high 38 assists in the three-set sweep.
Baylor freshman Torri Campbell led the Bears in kills with 10, while senior outside hitter Katie Sanders followed with nine kills and nine points on the night.
Cal moves on to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament to face the winner of the Penn State/Florida match, which will take place Friday at 6 p.m. ET. The quarterfinal match will be played Saturday at 4 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN U.
