One of the key’s to Florida’s success through the first two rounds of the NCAA volleyball tournament was its efficient offense. According to the NCAA statistics, released Tuesday, the Gators had the most efficient offense in the nation over the tournament’s first two rounds.
Florida hit a nation-best .424 as a team over the course of the weekend to lead all NCAA Division I tournament teams. The Gators recorded a .476 clip against the College of Charleston last Thursday night, marking the highest team hitting percentage in an NCAA Tournament match in school history. Florida followed that up with a .375 clip against FIU on Friday night.
This weekend’s NCAA Gainesville Regional features three of the top four NCAA hitting percentage teams in the nation as Penn State ranked second last week with a .420 clip over its first two rounds, while Cal was fourth with a .402 efficiency.
Sophomore Florida middle blocker Cassandra Anderson (Bakersfield, Calif.) ranked tied for fourth in the nation in hitting percentage in the individual standings, hitting at a sizzling .600 clip over the course of the weekend.
Three of the top four individual hitters of this year’s NCAA Tournament also will descend on Gainesville this weekend, as tournament leader Arielle Wilson of Penn State (.667) and third-place Mindi Wiley of Cal (.621) will be showcased at the O’Connell Center.
NCAA Gainesville Regional tickets are now on sale. Reserved first-level all-session passes are $15. General admission all-session passes for the upper level of the O’Connell Center are available for $12 for adults and $8 for youth and senior citizens. Single-session tickets will be available only on the day of the event.
