Gators Win 2009 Legends Classic With 73-58 Victory Over Rutgers

Boynton (Pompano Beach, Fla.) scored 19 points and junior Vernon Macklin (Portsmouth,
Va.) had 14 to
lead unbeaten Florida to a 73-58 win over Rutgers on Saturday and win the 2009
Legends Classic.
The Gators
(6-0) used a 15-4 run late in the second half to put the game away and cap a
successful tournament. Led by a near-flawless effort from Macklin, the Gators
looked sharp again a night after they upset No. 2 Michigan State. Macklin
finished the game 7-for-8 from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds.
Boyton and
sophomore Erving Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each made three three-point baskets. Walker
finished with 11 points and five assists. Senior Dan Werner (Middletown,
N.J.) had four
points, seven rebounds and five assists on the night.
Mike
Rosario scored 14 points and Hamady Ndiaye had 12 for Rutgers (3-2).
The Gators
return home to take on Florida A&M on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. as part of
a double-header with the UF women’s team.
