Monday May 29, 2000Florida Baseball Ends Season with 3-1 Loss

WACO, Texas

Jared Sandler pitched a complete game, five-hitter to lead San Jose State to a 3-1 victory over Florida. The Spartans advance to the Super Regionals against Houston.

Florida (44-23-1) managed just a single run against Sandler, who was making his first career start. Kevin Estrada led UF with two hits, while Matt Siegel drove in the only Gator run.

San Jose State scored three runs on five hits over 4.1 innings on UF starter Mike Smalley (6-9). Kenny Birch pitched the final four innings, holding the Spartans scoreless.

Florida left six runners on base, including three in the eighth inning when Kurt Keene flied out with the bases loaded to end the UF threat.

Tim Olson was named the Most Outstanding Player of the regional. Kurt Keene, Kevin Estrada and Aaron Sobieraj were also named to the All- Tournament team.
