Tony Socarras and Kurt Keene homered to lead 14th-ranked Florida to a 10-1
win over fifth-ranked Baylor in the second day of action at the Waco
Regional at the Baylor Ballpark.
Florida avoided its earliest elimination in NCA A Regional action since
1984, scoring in each of the first five innings to knock off the top seed
Baylor.
The Gators scored in the first inning on a RBI single by Jason Dill,
scoring Mark Kiger who had walked to start the game. Socarras hit a solo
home run in the second inning and Keene followed with a two-run blast in
the third inning. It was the first home run for Keene since March 12.
The Gators added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, breaking the
game open with a four-run eighth inning that deflated the home crowd of
3316.
Junior Jeff Cardozo (6-2) pitched his second complete game of the season,
striking out eight batters. He allowed just one run on seven hits to help
Florida advance in the loser’s bracket.
Florida advanced to the 8 p.m. ET game against the loser of the Southwest
Texas State/San Jose State matchup at 4 p.m.
