WACO, Texas

Tony Socarras and Kurt Keene homered to lead 14th-ranked Florida to a 10-1 win over fifth-ranked Baylor in the second day of action at the Waco Regional at the Baylor Ballpark.

Florida avoided its earliest elimination in NCA A Regional action since 1984, scoring in each of the first five innings to knock off the top seed Baylor.

The Gators scored in the first inning on a RBI single by Jason Dill, scoring Mark Kiger who had walked to start the game. Socarras hit a solo home run in the second inning and Keene followed with a two-run blast in the third inning. It was the first home run for Keene since March 12.

The Gators added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, breaking the game open with a four-run eighth inning that deflated the home crowd of 3316.

Junior Jeff Cardozo (6-2) pitched his second complete game of the season, striking out eight batters. He allowed just one run on seven hits to help Florida advance in the loser’s bracket.

Florida advanced to the 8 p.m. ET game against the loser of the Southwest Texas State/San Jose State matchup at 4 p.m.
