Saturday October 17, 2009W. Golf In Fifth Place After Two Rounds At Mercedes-Benz

Knoxville, Tenn.

The University of Florida women’s golf team improved their team score by nine strokes from the previous round to claim sole custody of fifth place after two rounds at the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championships. The Gators carded a second-round team score of 296 (+8) on Saturday for a 36-hole score of 599 (304-295, +23).

“I thought the team played great today under some tough conditions,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “I’m very proud of them. We are chipping away at the lead and putting ourselves in a good position for a great finish. I look forward to seeing what we can get done tomorrow, but overall, I’m happy with the way that the team played through the difficult conditions.”

Isabelle Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) led the Gators for the second-consecutive day after carding an even-par 72 in her second round. Lendl made a bogey on her second hole and a birdie on her first to remain even heading into the final nine holes. She continued to show her resiliency after following up her bogey on the 12th hole with her final birdie on the 15th. She’s currently in a tie for ninth with a two-round score of 146 (+2).

Just one stroke behind Lendl is Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.), who improved her score by one stroke by carding a one-over 73 on Saturday. The junior started the day on a positive note by notching a birdie on her first hole, but she followed with two-consecutive bogeys before adding a third on her seventh hole. The two-time All-SEC selection found her rhythm as she rolled on to collect 10-straight pars before making a birdie on her final hole. Her 36-hole score of 147 (74-73, +3) placed her in a tie for 14th.

Sophomore Evan Jensen (Bradenton, Fla.) is currently in a tie for 42nd after carding a three-over 75 for a total score of 153 (78-75, +9). Jensen entered the turn at one-over, but tallied bogeys on three of her next five holes. She ended her round positively, scoring her second birdie of the afternoon.

Freshman Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) finished the day with a three-over 75 and is currently in a tie for 47th place with a two-round score of 154 (+10). Piccio collected three birdies, six bogeys and nine pars on Saturday. Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) rounded out Florida’s lineup with an 82 (+10) in her second round. Watts is currently tied for 83rd with a total score of 160 (78-82, +16).
