MOOSIC, Pa.

The 16th-ranked University of Florida men's golf team shot a 27-over-par 311 in the third round of the NCAA East Regional to place 19th and missed the cut for the NCAA Championships by 19 strokes.

The Gators finished the tournament at 63-over-par 915 on the par 71, 6,847-yard layout of Glenmaura National Golf Club. Clemson won the tournament, firing a three round total of 19-over-par 871. The top 11 teams and two individuals who are not connected to one of the 11 teams from the Regional will advance on to the NCAA Championships to be held May 31 through June 3 in Opelika, Ala.

This is the first time UF has not advanced to the NCAA Championships since 1982. The Gators were one of only seven teams that had advanced to the Championships every year since the regional format began in 1989.

"We played poorly and this is a tremendous disappointment," said Coach Buddy Alexander. "I know we are a lot better than we played here and that is something that we will address in our workouts this summer."

Freshman Bubba Dickerson (Hilliard, Fla./West Nassau) was the low man for the Gators, carding a 5-over 76 on the day to finish at 13-over 226 to tie for 43rd place. Junior Nick Gilliam (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) fired a 2-over-par 73 in the final round to tie for 50th at 14-over-par 227.

Sophomore Camilo Benedetti (Medellin, Colombia/Instituto Jorge Robledo) posted an 82 on the day to tie for 66th place at 17-over-par 230. Junior Ben Banks (Surrey, England/King Edwards) shot 81 to finish tied for 92nd with a total of 234. Sophomore Taylor Walsh (Napanoch, N.Y./Ellenville) carded an 81 to place 105th at 247.

This tournament concludes the Gators' season.
