Friday May 19, 2000Men's Golf 12th at NCAA East Regionals

MOOSIC, Pa.

The 16th-ranked University of Florida men's golf team is in 12th place after two rounds of the NCAA East Regional at Glenmaura National Golf Club. Three teams were unable to complete their rounds due to delays.

The team shot a second round of 20-over-par 304 on the par 71, 6,847-yard layout for a total of 604. Clemson is the leader in the clubhouse at 13-over-par 581. The Tigers hold a 12-stroke advantage over top-ranked Georgia Tech who stands at 25-over-par 593.

Sophomore Camilo Benedetti (Medellin, Colombia/Instituto Jorge Robledo) is the low-man for the Gators after carding a 3-over-par 74 for a total of 6-over-par 148. Freshman Bubba Dickerson (Hilliard, Fla./West Nassau) fired a 2-over-par 73 for a total of 8-over 150.

Junior Ben Banks (Surrey, England/King Edwards) shot a 83 on the day for a 153 total, while junior Nick Gilliam (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) posted 76 to and sits at 154 on the leaderboard. Sophomore Taylor Walsh (Napanoch, N.Y./Ellenville) shot an 81 for a total of 166.

No individual places were available.

The top 11 team from the regional will advance on to the NCAA Championships, to be held May 31-June 1 in Opelika, Ala. The Gators are attempting to advance to the Championships for the 17th consecutive year.
