Monday June 1, 2009Baseball Super Regional Vs. Southern Miss To Begin Saturday Afternoon

Gainesville, Fla.

The NCAA Super Regional between No. 10 Florida and Southern Miss at McKethan Stadium will begin on Saturday at 3 p.m. The game will be carried live on ESPNU. The second game of the best-of-three series will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday, with the third and deciding game to begin at 1 or 7 p.m. on Monday if necessary.

 

The Gators (42-20) edged Bethune-Cookman (8-7) and knocked off No. 17 Miami (Fla.) twice (8-2, 16-5) to claim the Gainesville Regional, while the Golden Eagles (38-24) defeated host Georgia Tech, 12-8, on Monday night in a winner-take-all showdown to capture the Atlanta Regional. Florida and Southern Miss have never met in the postseason and will be meeting for just the second time.

The eight Super Regional hosts were announced tonight by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.

 

A minimum of 45 hours of Super Regional television will be provided by family of ESPN channels, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Consult local listings for specific games shown in each area of the country. As many as 15 national broadcast windows could appear on the three ESPN networks from June 5-8.

 

The following four Super Regionals will be played Friday, June 5, Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7 (if necessary). The national seed is indicated before the team name, while updated records through the Regionals are in parenthesis.

The determination of the Men’s College World Series order of first-round games both Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, will be announced on Monday, June 8. The ESPN family of networks and www.ncaa.com will release the MCWS game dates and times as soon as they are available.

 

The 63rd College World Series begins play Saturday, June 13, at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.
